A member asked:

Please answer! what predisposing events are often associated with subsequent otitis media and what is the mechanism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

URI / sinusitis: Typically an upper respiratory illness can predispose to a decrease in the ability of fluid in the middle ear to be drained through the eustachian tube into the nasal cavity. This leads to a middle ear infection. Additionally a sinus infection can lead to an ear infection
