Kidney failure tests: The most simple way to diagnose kidney failure is to determine a person's bun, creatinine, potassium, co2, phosphorus, intact PTH and calcium levels. All these values will be elevated with the exception of the co2 and calcium in patients with kidney failure. See a nephrologist for more information on how bad the kidney disease is.
