A member asked:

What test is done to check kidney stones or infections?

Dr. Hiep Le answered

Specializes in Nephrology and Dialysis

Infection: urinalysis and urine culture Kidney stone: the most sensitive and specific test will be CT scan (low radiation dose). Kidney ultrasound can be used for avoiding radiation but the sensitivity is lower because of technical dependence. Kidney stone with infection: a combination of both studies (urine tests and CT scan)
