Both can work: I typically use a bandage type head drawing immediately after surgery. This helps place and secure the ears and absorb drainage right after surgery. However, once this is removed, i don't expect patients to redress their ears in the same way. Using a headband (and their are many different styles/approaches) allows the patient to take this on and off, adjust as directed by your surgeon. Ask your dr.

Why choose?: Each offers benefits. I send patients home with a head wrap for security. Once the wrap is removed, a head band is used at night. It should protect the ears from folding forward, but should not be tight. Tight bands can cause injury to the skin and change the shape of the ear. Be sure to check with your plastic surgeon.

Both: Most surgeons use a head bandage initially. Then switch to a headband after the initial bandage is removed. Use the protocol that your surgeon recommends in his/her practice.
