Depends...: In the past mental illness were thought to be originated by our emotions, magical forces, etc. Nowadays scientific research has been able to identify the biological brain mechanisms that are associated with many mental disorders. So based on this perspective, mental disorders could be considered brain disorders, because their association with underlying faulty or disorganized brain mechanisms.
