Depends: Depends on how fast or slowly the bleed is occurring. The symptoms can be instantaneous or it could occur after a few hours.

Immediately: A hemopneumothorax means that the lung or chest wall is leaking air and blood into the chest cavity. This would occur immediately after a stab wound into the chest (and lung). The treatment is to place a tube into the chest to drain the air and blood and re-expand the lung, which will be collapsed.
