Digital or film?: Digital x-rays rely on the sensor computer software program to intensify the x-ray image onto the monitor, therefore requiring only 1 rad per image taken. Films about 15 rads each. You would get about 90% more radiation walking from the office to your car than once a year dental x-rays. To put dose into perspective, a woman who receives radiation for breast cancer will receive about 5000 rads.
