Polydactyly is a : Common condition. The most common of these is a post axial polydactyly, meaning an extra small finger. Most are removed at a very young age. The finger itself is not harmful but cosmesis may be a concern and function of the two ringers may be less than if one were there. Polydactyly is associated with many genetic syndromes but they are not caused by the extra finger.

Not harmful. It is just one of the normal variations of being human. If the 6th finger is getting in the way of good function, you should consider having it removed.
