Ice: It is difficult to keep medications on the tongue. Immediate treatment is to us cold(ice, popsicles, ice cream, cold milk). This will soothe the pain and reduce the inflammation. Do not use anything harsh on the tongue like mouthwash and eat a softer mild diet. Give it time.

Ice and time: Just like skin cells your taste buds are constantly being replaced and just like skin cells they will heal over time. Depending on the severity of the burn it could take about 5-7 days. In the mean time avoid hot, rough, and/or acidy food and drinks, as they will slow down healing and feel uncomfortable. Cold drinks and sucking on ice can make it feel better. Motrin or advil (ibuprofen) may help as well.

Burnt tongue: Just baby it for approx week. Nothing spicy, hot, sharp, etc. Ice, yogurt, pudding, jello all will make it feel better. Use good judgement.
