TIA and Stroke: Tia symptoms can be like stroke causing facial droop, weakness or numbness on one side of the body, balance problem and others. These symptoms should lead to a call to 911. If the symptoms go away within 24 hrs and MRI scan of brain is normal then it is TIA otherwise a stroke. A present TIA is a warning for future strokes. A neurologist can help in assessing future stroke risk and prevention.

TIA: Transient ischemic attack. In general, symptoms of a stroke that completely resolve in less than 24 hours. Patients that have a TIA are at an increased risk of stroke. Therefore, a thorough evaluation to identify causes or modify risk factors for stroke is imperative.
