Highly successful: Cataract removal is almost always by ultrasonic fragmentation of the lens removing the opaque portions. It is done under local anesthesia (except in children), with substitution of an artificial lens to provide corrective focus. The procedure is rapid (25 minutes or so) with quick recovery to the full visual potential. It is a triumph of modern technology.
