Please help docs! where does one dispose of single use acupuncture needles?

Some acupuncturists: Allow patient's to go home with needles in place. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to do this at the medical treatment facility where i work. The acupuncturists i know who do this - only do so with trustworthy patients. The patients return the needles at the next visit and they are placed in sharps boxes.
