Dr. George Klauber answered

Specializes in Pediatric Urology

None required: Horseshoe kidney is usually two normal kidneys joined together in midline. Junction or isthmus can be anything from thick kidney tissue to a fibrous band. In past drs thought isthmus had 2B divided, this is almost always unnecessary ; then only with strong evidence that it is causing pain. Sometimes associated with ureteral obstruction ; hydronephrosis which can be corrected by a good urologist.
