Had a patent ductus repair in sept of 1980 no records of metal used. hospital did mri anyway. is it possible it damaged my heart.

Highly unlikely: Even if a stainless steel clip was used these are only slightly impacted by the magnetic fields commonly used in MRI today. In addition, the length of time (30 years) further supports a stabilized position of the clip. You should have had no negative effects of the mri.

NO: Most probably no issues if done through catheter they used coiling method and no contra indication for mri they will not do MRI knowing any possible side effects and risk to the device.
