A member asked:

My 15 yr son has a sore throat, heavy eyes, temp is 99.5f and his heart rate is in the 90-100. should i be worried about this or will it pass.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pharyngitis/tonsils: While most cases of acute pharyngitis are simple viral infections which resolve on their own, there are other considerations which include strep infection, mononucleosis, and tonsillitis. He needs a throat swab. Untreated strep, in particular, can lead to abscess, rheumatic fever, and glomerulonephritis. A simple throat swab will resolve this question.
