Rectal exam: Your symptoms may be due to hemorrhoids or a rectal fissure. A rectal exam should be done. In the meantime take a stool softener, apply warm compresses to the anal area, and insert a glycerin or anusol suppository or ointment for easier bm and soothing of the discomfort. Keep the anal area clean after using a suppository or ointment.
