Genetic trauma: Marcus gunn jaw winking syndrome is elevation or depression of the eyelid on chewing/suckling and may occur either in one or both eyes, with or without congenital ptosis (droopy eyelid). The motor branch of the trigeminal (cranial vth) nerve that controls the jaw (pterygoid) muscle deviates and innervates the eyelid muscle on the same or both sides. This can be genetic, from trauma or unknown.

Fetal problem: During your fetal development, several of the nerves that control basic functions of your face, have gotten redundant misdirection so that when you move your jaw in certain positions and activities, the eyelids will droop or move. This is isolated and not from any other problems elsewhere in your body. You will learn to disguise the motions; surgical correction is usually unsatisfactory.
