A member asked:

Does it really help to take benadryl (diphenhydramine) when you are having face flushing from a cortisone shot on the second day?is that just a sensitivity reaction?

FACE FLUSHING: Cortisone shot can cause sympathetic nervous reaction such as face flushing, tachycardia, etc. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) helps by calming you and puts you to sleep.

Won't help: Cortisone increases the blood flow to the face and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) won't help. The reaction is dose-dependent for each individual.- the higher the dose, the more the flushing. It just takes time (a few days perhaps).
