A member asked:

My son has a rash on his shin that seams to be spreading - it itches - no bumps - could it be serious? he just took benadryl (diphenhydramine) and put cortisone it

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Itchy rash: Many children get topical fungus infections. Used to be called ring worm. This is caused by a fungus on the skin that is many times caught from a pet or the outdoors. Most of the time red and itchy and spreading. Cortisone may actually make the condition spread faster. May need to be checked by your doctor to get the right diagnosis and treatment.
