A member asked:

Isn't it better to get a total nail alvusion rather than partial when it comes to ingrown toenails?

Partial: In any age group, but especially younger patients like yourself.....I recommend just having the edges removed. You gotta' remember, once the whole nail is gone...It's gone, you can't get it back. So you better make sure your willing to commit to something like that. Plus there is no reason to think that "just having the edges removed, " will not relieve your pain.

Not necessarily.: The big toe is the most common toe affected by an ingrown nail. It often only affects one side of the nail. If this is the case then a partial nail avulsion on the affected side is all that is necessary. This is less traumatic and usually heals faster than a total avulsion.

No: Total nail avulsion is for the worst of cases when both borders are badly affected. I do these less than 1% of the time.
