Edema: Is the swelling of tissue due to fluid. Pulmonary edema happens when the heart can't accommodate the fluid going thru it if it is weak or there is too much fluid and it stagnates and seeps out into the tissues of the lung and cause hypoxia or sob. In surgery, it usually is due to the administration of fluid while the heart is depressed in activity due to anesthesia. It is treated with diuresis.
