A member asked:

Hi doctors, was just wondering what is exactely pulmonary edema, is it similar to alveolar edema?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pulmonary edema: Occurs when the pressure in the blood vessels exceeds the surrounding tissues (like oozing) or the particles in the blood (oncotic pressure) is low, or there is leakiness in the vessels (as in the inflammation from sepsis). If this happens in lung then there is pulmonary edema causing sogginess of the lung tissues.
