Several conditions: A blood clot that blocks a deep vein in your body is called a deep venous thrombosis and depending on where it occurs can put you at risk for a pulmonary embolus which is a blood clot that blocks a pulmonary artery. This can result in death a blood clot that blocks an artery in your brain causes a thrombotic stroke a blood clot that blocks an artery in the heart causes a heart attack.
