Depends where the: Swelling is you are speaking of. If you are talking of within the spine, there are number of things, from infection to injury, things like transverse myelitis, etc. If it is in the meninges, infections like spinal meningitis can occur which causes swelling. If you are talking about outside the spine, where you can feel it on the outside, can be anything from spasms to infections. Hope that helps!
