Measures oxygen: Pulse ox is a technique used to measure the oxygen saturation in your blood. Oxygen is carried around the body in hemoglobin molecules; pulse ox detects what percentage of these oxygen carrying sites are being used. A normal pulse ox (at sea level) is approximately 96%-100%, meaning 96-100% of the oxygen carrying sites are indeed carrying oxygen.
