Bladder inflammation: Interstitial cystitis is a chronic painful bladder disorder that affects approximately 1 million americans. The exact cause is not known. Symptoms are similar to a bladder infection with urgency to urinate, pain and pressure. Treatments are tailored to individual patients. These may include Elmiron (pentosan) (the first oral medication approved specifically for ic), antihistamines, and pain medications.
