A member asked:

Can there be better and low-cost alternatives to peritoneal dialysis in the treatment of end-stage renal disease?

Possibly transplant: Kidney transplant, over time, will likely produce better outcomes and better cost-effectivenes. Related donors - or even non-related living donors ('benevolent donors') may be out there! cadaver kidneys may be available as well. But your question is best answered by an individual's nephrologist! hemodialysis, particularly home hemodialysis, takes longer training but works well, too. Lgromko md.

Dialysis: Peritoneal dialysis is the least expensive form of dialysis. It is effective and more natural than hemodialysis. PD provides continuous clearances that are natural.
