LASIK vs PRK: Retinal detachments occur most commonly in patients that are myopic or near-sighted. Lasik or icl procedures do not affect the chance that someone will get a retinal detachment. We had one patient that scheduled lasik, but had a conflict and rescheduled. The day after she was supposed to have had her lasik - she returned to our office with a retinal detachment. Point being - myopia is the risk.
