A member asked:

Can you take out you current not-working-right pancreas, and replace it with the donated one?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes & no: Hi. What is your pancreas problem? It is generally only taken out for cancer or chronic pancreatitis. Is it the digestive enzyme part or the hormone part that's not working (or both, e.g., cystic fibrosis)? Pancreas transplants (Tx) are done to treat diabetes (NOT digestive enzyme deficiency), usually in the setting of a kidney Tx for kidney failure. Only get a Tx if you really NEED a Tx. Good luk
