Space too limited: This is destruction of lung tissue and structure, making the alveoli coalesce into one larger sac but decreasing the surface area. It is also the destruction of the airway itself making the airways less distensible to air passage. This can be due to chemicals impairing the integrity of ability of the lung to repair itself as in smoking or impaired ability itself as in antitrypsin deficiency.
