Could a car accident trigger diabetes (type 1)?

No: Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease and trauma should play no role in causing it. Having said that, type 1 diabetes may be silent for a long time before it causes symptoms, and significant stressors are often the cause of why one gets a glucose checked in the first place, and thus often (coincidentally) associated with the discovery of the condition.

No: Not causal. However, one with evolving hyperglycemia from type one diabetes could be at risk to have a car wreck from cognitive effects of the hyperglycemia. Hope this helps!
