Two different things: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rapid infection that can be fatal. Treatment involves surgery to remove infected tissue and save the person's life. Cancer is when cells in the body grow uncontrollably. Treatment for cancer can make someone susceptible to infections, like necrotizing fasciitis. But necrotizing fasciitis can also occur in perfectly healthy people who get a minor skin wound.
