A member asked:

Could poison oak/ivy do real damage if it gets into your blood?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely: Uroshiol, the component in poison ivy and poison oak that causes the rash does not penetrate into the bloodstream. However, scratching the rash can cause cuts to the skin which may become secondarily infected.
