Infection vs fluid: Pneumonia is a term we use when a patient has an infection. This is treated with antibiotics or other medications to kill the organism. Pulmonary edema is fluid inside the lungs and usually caused by the heart not been able to pump blood efficiently and it backing up into the lungs. So the water part of the blood sneaks into the lungs. The treatments are very different.
