6-20 hours.: The half life of xanax (alprazolam) is 6 to 12 hours but can stay as long as 6 to 20 hours depending on how long you've taken it. The reason it may take longer maybe due to your liver problem.

Tapering needed: The court may not be realizing that Alprazolam needs to be tapered rather than stopped suddenly. The elimination half-life of Alprazolam is 15-18 hours, but may be longer if you're overweight or have liver issues. It will be in your system for 3-4 days, therefore. But you may be sensitive to reductions in concentration, and experience withdrawal symptoms unless the drug is gradually tapered.
