Complicated problem: Onj is a relatively recently discovered problem. Still, more docs should understand about it. Look at the webesite for the american association of oral ; maxillofacial surgeons for the latest information.: http://www.Aaoms.Org/docs/position_papers/bronj_update.Pdf.

Wasn't Aware: I wasn't aware so many doctors were "unaware of onj", as you state. There are certain precipitating treatments, most commonly IV bisphosphonate therapy that will increase the chances for onj to occur after any jaw surgery. Once recognized, there are certain steps to take, in order to help a patient that may experience onj, in any of the early, more easily treated, symptoms and conditions.

Difficult disorder: "osteonecrosis of the jaw (onj) is a condition in which one or more parts of the jawbones become dead (necrotic) and exposed to the inside of the mouth." i would search out more opinions on this disorder. Also, possibly check out onj support groups on web or locally to compare notes and possibly find some solutions that you were not aware of.

Complicated: all I can say is that it is a complicated issue clouded by cause and treatment options based on patient history, medications taking and the future treatment that is needed. Sorry, I hope you find what you need
