Maybe: If you have an infection... Yes.. Otherwise it is something else.... I would suggest seeing a dentist if you have swelling or pain coming from the tooth... Otherwise see a physician.

Possible: The gum tissue around wisdom teeth can become infected. When food packs in around the gum tissue, pericoronitis can develop. Pericoronitis is swelling around the crown of a tooth. Go to see your dentist and have this treated.

Dentist/oral surgeon: You may have some infection that has started to form, or it may be the tooth erupting...But i would see your dentist asap to take an x-ray and determine whether the alignment of the erupting tooth is worth saving or not. I would also check the other wisdom teeth to determine their viability.

Some tips: Rinsing mouth with warm saltwater will help ease the pain. Rinse 2-5 times a day; don’t swallow salt water. Oral numbing meds can be applied. Otc pain relievers may help ease the pain. Chewing gum will gently massage the irritated area. These measures may temporarily relieve the pain. However, an oral surgeon should examine the tooth/teeth and decide whether further treatment is necessary.
