A member asked:

Does gastroenteritis normally need hospital care?

Depends on age/other: Usually, gastroenteritis is a self-limiting condition and gets better on its own without needing to be in the hospital. However, sometimes the nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea can be severe enough to cause dehydration. If you are unable to keep any liquids down or have other medical issues such as diabetes, you should be evaluated by your doctor. This is also true for infants & elderly. Thx.
