White patch: Leukoplakia is a non-specific clinical diagnosis. It just means "white patch". A biopsy is needed to get a clinical diagnosis. Can range from nothing to cancer. Get a biopsy.

Condition vs diag: Leukoplakia is an observable condition that can be visualized much like redness or swelling might be. Identifying the underlying cause of the leukoplakia, on the other hand, is the result of making a diagnosis. For this process, biopsy, clinical lab tests, and clinical judgement all come into play. What you want to know is why you have leukoplakia and that may take a little sleuthing.
