Get diagnosis: "plain" leukoplakia and "hairy" leukoplakia are different entities with greatly differerent significance to your health. Either may be uncomfortable / sensitive, but it's essential that you find out which you have, whether it is premalignant / malignant, and whether you are immunocompromised (as is often the case in people with hairy leukoplakia).

Very important!: Many lesions can cause your gums or tissues to be irritated\burn from spicy foods. Some people get this even without any lesions. Of extreme importance is to know exactly what you have, & monitor it at least every 6 months with a complete head and neck soft tissue screening at your dentist, along with routine dental checkups. It should definitely be biopsied! if not recommended, see oral surgeon.
