A member asked:

Read that it's advisable to stop taking arava (leflunomide) while on antibiotics to allow its effectiveness after surgery ( due to infections & faster recovery). tx?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See details: Arava (leflunomide) stays in your system for months after it is stopped. Therefore, if you need to treat a serious infection, the Arava (leflunomide) should be washed out by taking cholestyramine. Stopping it without the washout is worthless.
