You don.t: The only effective remedy is a pill which you take at the very first tingling (prodrome) before a sore is established. So you need to get the prescription, carry the med, be prepared to take it immediatly as soon as you think you feel it coming. Valacyclovir is dosed at 2grams ( 2 pills) and has no toxicity. Once you have a sore it does not matter what you do.It will heal in about a week. Sometime.
