Are generic forms of anti depressants as effective as the non generic? i've read conflicting information on this.

It depends: All generic forms are supposed to have the same amount of active ingredient in them, but may have different additives and colorings. Pharmacies buy different generics, and you may respond differently to one than another -- doing well with company a's generic, but not company b's version. You might not realize this until feeling worse ; not knowing why. Response to brand name drug is more uniform.
