Hypothyroidism: Patients can present with normal TSH levels but still experience symptoms of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. If a patient's TSH falls in the normal range, thyroid tests for free T4 and free t3 (liothyronine) and thyroid antibodies can rule out hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

What level was TSH?: Some doctors believe if your TSH is above 2.5, you may still have some hypothyrodism. This view is not accepted by all. What were your other thyroid hormone levels? Thyroid antibodies can also tell you if something else is going on. What symptoms do you have? Hard to answer without more info. Dry skin, cold or heat intolerance, weight gain, fatigue? What's going on?

About 60% of people: With normal thyroid function have one or more symptoms of hypothyroidism, but don't have the disease. If you're concerned, repeat the tsh. If it's also not only normal but appropriate, look to another cause for your symptoms.
