How open?: If there is missing tissue or any flapping skin, it likely needs to be closed after it is well cleansed. Go to an er/urgent care and they can take care of it using sutures or special glue/bandages. If its just a scratch, keep it clean and let it heal in most cases.

Laceration: If it is wide and not easily held together with a butterfly bandaid or if it is hard to stop the bleeding, then it may need stitches.
