Good shoes/ surgery: Bunions are a deformity of the joint at the base of the big toe usually. Most often this is created by wearing shoes that force the toe outward toward the others creating stress, pain and then the deformity. Avoiding narrow toed shoes and high heels is a must. Wearing a spacer between the 1st ; 2nd toes in a wider shoe may help the pain/stress of the joint. A podiatrist can surgically correct.

Surgery: If they really are bunions. Sometime thick skin or callous can be trimmed or rubbed off, but if they are truly bunions they are down to the bone, and that is where the treatment needs to occur.

Bunions: Bunions come in all shapes and sizes.... That is a complex question, however conservative therapies can be effective early on... Surgery is reserved only when the conservative therapy fails and the bunions are very painful and significant deformity prevents normal life style.

Surgery.: The only way to "get rid of a bunion" is with surgery. A bunion is a structural deformity of the foot and is not as simple as some people think. There is much more going on than the bump on the foot that is clinically visible. X-rays are needed to properly evaluate a bunion deformity. See a podiatrist that is board certified in foot surgery for a proper consultation.
