Tumor marker: This is a normal substance but if you have a medullary carcinoma of the thyroid, a carcinoid, a pheochromocytoma, or maybe an oat cell carcinoma of the lung, the tumor is likely to greatly overproduce it. Your high reading doesn't prove anything, though, in the absence of other evidence of tumor. It's one piece of a puzzle.
