A member asked:

Had u/sound and blood tests after finding small lump on throat. was told i have thyroiditis by endocrinologist what does this mean? i was also told i am more likely to develop over/under active thyroid in my life. is this a common condition?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroiditis is the medical term for inflammation/irritation of that gland. There are several potential triggers, which you should discuss with the doc. If the gland gets too busy making hormone they can stop it medically, if it stops making hormone, they can replace the hormone easily with a daily pill. It is a common condition.
