Call dentist: Just because the abscess is draining does not mean the tooth is fine. The bacteria are festering in the bone or gum tissue, and the cause of the abscess needs to be determined and treated. Failure to treat can cause further breakdown of the tooth and bone, and result in the loss of that tooth.

Gum Abscess: Early, acute, chronic, draining, non-draining, doesn't matter. You need to see the dentist asap. Abscess=abnormal something is wrong and needs to be addressed immediately.

Gum abscess: The only way to cure a periodontal (gum) abscess is with dental treatment. The first step of treatment is to drain all pus that has accumulated in the abscess. The deep cleaning will be required for the gum pocket and cause of the infection should be removed.
