Gangrene: The gangrenous toe will not necessarily kill him. Nor will an amputation . However, the gangrenous toe will probably demarcate and actually fall of on its own. Seek the advise of both your podiatrist and a vascular specialist - who will be working together in his care.

Correct treatment: Is less painful , removing gangrenous toe is correct treatment , age (91) should not alter correct treatment , discuss with the doctors , ask you dad what he want to be done , get your family get involved if he is not competent , and follow his health care proxy

Depends: Sometimes an amputation is a humane procedure for people who are in chronic pain from bad circulation. If your dad cannot walk and has chronic pain and amputation may be the best way to go.
